The part of the trip you should be able to ignore

Remote water, a national park and a boat you sleep on. Safety here is procedure and drilling, not a paragraph on a website — but you are entitled to see the procedure before you board.

In short

Every operator inside Komodo National Park works under permit, and every guest gets a briefing before the first landing. Beyond the legal minimum, the things that matter at sea are drills, a dive team with real grades, and a crew that has run the route before.

  • PADI-certified dive team, briefed per site
  • Ranger-guided walks on Rinca and Komodo, always
  • Safety and evacuation drill run with each new group

What is in place

Four things worth asking any operator about

Ask us, and ask whoever else you are considering. The answers should be specific.

Equipment and drills

Lifejackets sized for everyone aboard including children, tender safety kit, and a drill run with each new group rather than filed away.

Dive supervision

PADI-certified instructors and divemasters, per-site briefings, and conservative limits on the tide-dependent northern sites.

Permits

National park permits current and produceable. An operator who cannot show them is not one to sail with.

Insurance

Operator liability in place, and we will tell you exactly what it does and does not cover so you can arrange your own travel and dive cover.

If something happens

What the plan actually is

Komodo is remote. The honest answer is that response time depends on where you are on the route, so the plan is built around shortening it.

  1. 01

    Comms

The park has almost no mobile coverage. The boat carries its own communications and does not rely on a phone signal.

  2. 02

    On board

Medical kit aboard and crew trained to use it. Guest medical declarations are collected before departure, not on the jetty.

  3. 03

    Evacuation

Every anchorage on the route has a known run time back to Labuan Bajo, and the crew knows it before dropping anchor.

  4. 04

    Ashore

Labuan Bajo has the nearest hospital. Anything beyond it is a flight to Bali, which is why the run time back matters.

Travel insurance that covers diving and remote evacuation is strongly recommended and is not included in any rate. We will say so again before you pay a deposit.

Ask us the awkward questions

Permits, insurance limits, crew grades, evacuation times. If an operator hesitates on any of those, that is your answer.
